Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. This course is an important course for anyone working with children and young people to help them understand what safeguarding is and how we can help safeguard those in our care Course Objectives • Be able to communicate effectively and develop working relationships with other practitioners and professionals, children and families to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. • Identify what is meant by Safeguarding and child abuse. • Identify the relevant legislation and guidance that provides the framework for safeguarding young people. • Name the categories of child abuse and neglect and recognise the signs and indicators. • Recognise how own beliefs, experience and attitudes might influence professional involvement in safeguarding work. • State how to respond to concerns about safety and welfare of a young child/young person using their organisations child protection policy and procedures. • Identify blocks to children and adults reporting a safeguarding concern. • To understand how to appropriately contribute to inter-agency assessment by gathering and sharing information appropriately.
